We’re taking you to Golija, a mountain of wide-open views, deep forests, and primordial silence, where winter transforms into true peace.
In the very heart of the “Golija–Studenica” Biosphere Reserve, the only UNESCO-protected area in Serbia, a landscape awaits where nature and spirituality intertwine most beautifully – through snowy trails, clear rivers, and a sense of serenity that is rarely felt so strongly.
On this three-day winter journey, we will visit the 12th-century Studenica Monastery, one of the most precious monuments of our history, then set off on foot towards the peace and silence of Saint Sava’s hermitage on Mount Čemerno, explore the magical cascades of the Izubra waterfall, a hidden gem of Golija, and climb Jankov Kamen (1,833 m) – the mountain’s highest peak, with views that remain forever etched in your memory.
Our refuge will be Studenica and its monastic lodgings, surrounded by mountains and a calming silence.
We will spend the winter evenings in the warmth, simplicity and peace of this sacred place – a perfect beginning to the New Year 2026.

First day (Friday): departure from Belgrade
- Polazak iz Beograda u 06:00 h, jutarnja vožnja kroz Zapadnu Srbiju.
- Coffee break and breakfast.
- Arrival at the Studenica Monastery, the most beautiful endowment of Stefan Nemanja and the “mother of Serbian churches”. Guided tour of the 12th-century complex.
-
Built between 1183 and 1196, Studenica is a blend of Raška and Byzantine architecture, blue marble and some of the most important frescoes of Serbian art. It was once the spiritual, cultural, and medical center of medieval Serbia under the care of Saint Sava.
It is also where the Studenica Typikon, the first literary work among Serbs, was created. The peace felt in the monastery courtyard, among the centuries-old walls and the mountain peaks surrounding it, leaves a strong impression right at the very beginning of the journey. - Transfer to the starting point of the hike to the Lower Hermitage of Saint Sava. It is located about 8 km north of the monastery, and its history dates back to 1175. Saint Sava stayed here in solitude, withdrawing for prayer and spiritual renewal. It is considered one of the oldest and most important sanctuaries dedicated to Saint Sava, and to this day, it radiates a special sense of calm and silence.
- We set off along a trail that first leads through an oak and hornbeam forest, accompanied by the gentle murmur of the Studenica River. Our first stop is the Lower Hermitage of Saint Sava, tucked against the rock, with a small church and Saint Sava’s fountain — a spring of cold mountain water.
- Hiking: 5 km round trip, 530 m ascent, ~2 h
- Return to Studenica. Accommodation in the monastic lodgings – silence, peace, mountain air, and the authentic atmosphere of the monastery complex.
- Overnight

We continue along the ridge to Jankov Kamen (1,833 m), the highest peak of Golija.
-
If the weather permits, this is a day for beautiful panoramas, light winds over the ridge, and a feeling of complete mountain peace.
