Mount Maljen, located above Mionica and Divčibare, is one of those mountains that always surprises with its silence, peace, and gentle, expansive landscapes. Wide grassy slopes, the scent of pine forests, and open, “breathing” views are what make Maljen recognizable among hikers. Although it is not very high, it offers a sense of mountain vastness and lightness, ideal for late autumn and winter tours.

Our goal is Veliki Kozomor, the highest point of this part of Maljen (1008 m a.s.l.), which we reach via a circular trail through forests, meadows, and gentle ridges offering views towards Suvobor, Rajac, and the Kolubara valley. The summit is wide and open, so even in calm winter weather it provides a true panorama. The tour starts at Lake Rosići, a small, quiet mountain lake surrounded by forest, which gives a special atmosphere to both the beginning and the end of the ascent. Maljen in December can be enchantingly beautiful: crisp air, soft light, wide open spaces, and the feeling of true winter hiking zen.

Ascent to Veliki Kozomor

  • Departure on the hiking trail that starts near Lake Rosići, a small, quiet mountain lake surrounded by pine forest, which gives a special atmosphere to both the beginning and the end of the day.

  • The trail first gently ascends through a pleasant forest and wide mountain clearings, then emerges onto open slopes with increasingly wide views towards Suvobor, Rajac, and the slopes of Maljen. Just below the summit, the terrain becomes grassy and open, so Veliki Kozomor (1008 m a.s.l.) is reached easily, while enjoying the wide vistas and taking photos.

  • From the summit, wide panoramas open up, along with a sense of true mountain silence – an ideal place for a short break, tea from a thermos, and a snack.

  • A pleasant descent follows along a circular route over gentle ridges and meadows, then a return through the forest all the way back to Lake Rosići.

  • The total length of the route is around 12 km, with around 400 m of elevation gain, suitable for hikers with average fitness who enjoy dynamic but not overly demanding tours.
