The Ribnica nature monument is located near Mionica. The river Ribnica belongs to the Kolubara basin and springs below the mountain Maljen. It is an extremely clean river that is rich in different types of fish.

The river Gradac and it's gorge represent a real treasure of the Valjevo region. Gradac springs below the mountain Povlen and is one of the cleanest rivers in Europe. The gorge is about 22 km long, picturesque, and extremely rich in wildlife and caves.

A one-day tour where you will relax surrounded by clean rivers, visit beautiful monasteries, enjoy the warm ambiance of the Petrović household and walk through the gorge of the Gradac river!

  • Equipment: hiking boots or sports shoes with a stronger sole, please bring enough water and some food (snacks, sandwiches, fruits)
  • Information about the hiking trail, the gorge of the river Gradac: Length about 8 km, total ascent/descent slight, difficulty: easy, for all ages.
  • For the tour realization, it is necessary a minimum of 18 passengers
  • Price is for members of "Explore Serbia". You can find membership information here. For those who do not have a membership card, the price is 4800 dinars.
  • Own transportation: in case you come with your transport, the price of the tour is 2,700 dinars (with Explore Serbia membership cards) or 3,700 dinars (for those who do not have a membership card).
  • Transportation from Novi Sad: the surcharge is 1200 dinars. Another option is to take the train to the Tošin Bunar railway station in New Belgrade, where you can wait for our transport. You can see the timetable here.
  • Accident insurance: in order for this type of insurance to be active, you need to send us your personal number (JMBG) when registering.
  • In case of insufficient number of registered passengers or unfavorable weather conditions, the deadline for notification of postponement or cancellation of the tour is 2 days before departure.
  • Trip cancellations by passengers: 

    • In case of cancellation of the trip by the passenger, 5 or more days before the tour date, the Agency retains the amount of 20% of the reservation costs.
    • In case the traveler cancels the trip less than 5 days before the trip, the agency reserves the right to the entire amount. In case of replacement by another passenger who is found either by the passenger himself or by the Agency, 90% of the paid amount is returned to the passenger.
    • In case of illness of the passenger and cancellation up to 3 days before the tour, the paid money can be returned or the amount can be transferred for another tour organized by the Agency, and the traveler is obliged to send medical documentation about the illness in writing. In case of illness of the traveler and cancellation less than 3 days before the tour, in addition to sending medical documentation about the illness, the traveler is obliged to compensate the Agency for the incurred costs (transportation and travel organization costs), and part of the money can be refunded.

The attractions you will see:

Ribnica Monastery, has been demolished and rebuilt several times, as have most Serbian Orthodox churches. It is dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Since 2017, the monk Arsenije Jovanović has been coming for the head of the monastery, when they say that he is not an ordinary monk. He is a versatile and charismatic person, he likes to write, paint and sing, and he is also known for his spiritual advice, which he shares with people who turn to him.

Household Petrović, where is a house of homemade tea, within which you can follow the biologist during the collection of teas, and learn about medicinal plants and their use. There is also a Stone Museum on the farm, where you can see the history of our planet told through an interesting display of minerals, rocks, and fossils.

Ribnica Cave, was named after the river Ribnica. The cave is the only speleological object in Serbia in which there are 15 species of bats (Chiroptera) protected as a natural rarity. The entrance to the Ribnica Cave is in the shape of an isosceles triangle, 12 m high and 25 m wide. A stream flows through the cave. The floor of the hall is covered with earth and blocks of limestone, but also with gravel, which is deposited here by Ribnica at high waters.

The gorge of the river Gradac

The river Gradac is the richest tributary of Kolubara in water. It cut a 22.7 km long gorge-canyon valley. Gradac originates from the confluence of the Bukovska river and Zabava and has a length of 28 km and a total drop of 187 meters to the mouth of the Kolubara. The gorge is extremely rich in wildlife and underground forms of karst erosion. The most interesting and most visited picnic areas and beaches are Livadica, Ploče, Kriva vrba, Šareno platno. The Belgrade-Bar railway passes through the gorge of the river Gradac.

The river Gradac and its gorge are also called the Valjevo miracle. It has been officially declared one of the cleanest rivers in Southeast Europe. On the bank of the river, 6 km from Valjevo, there is the monastery of Ćelije, and below it an ethno household with a restaurant.

Belgrade - Mionica - Ribnica - Paštrić

  • Departure from Belgrade at 7.30 AM from the parking lot at the municipality New Belgrade
  • Travel to Mionica, drive about 1.5 hours.
  • Arrival to the Ribnica natural monument. This natural monument is adorned with: the Ribnica Monastery dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the Ribnica River, the Ribnica and Salitrena Caves, and 13 protected linden trees.
  • Visit the Ribnica Monastery, then the Ribnica Cave.
  • Visit the Household Petrović in the village of Paštrić near Ribnica, where it is located House of domestic tea, as well as Stone Museum, hosted by Predrag Petrović, a well-known biologist and expert on bats. Presentation by hard-working hosts who founded the first gene and seed bank of old Serbian varieties of fruits and vegetables on their property. In Petrović's yard, an almost extinct wild pear has been growing and bearing fruits for three centuries.
  • In the House of Tea, you will hear interesting facts about medicinal herbs and teas from a young professor and biologist, Ivana Petrović. You will learn how to properly prepare tea, and which plants are used for what. About 40 types of tea are represented in the Tea House, which Ivana collects from early spring to late autumn.
  • More than 300 geological exhibits are presented in the Stone Museum, from the Middle Devonian to the Upper Cretaceous period, i.e. the period when the last dinosaurs died out. The basic idea of the museum is to point out the priceless wealth of Serbia's geoheritage.
  • After that, departure to the Gradac river gorge. Driving for about half an hour.

Hiking tour through the gorge of the river Gradac

  • Arrival to the Ćelije Monastery. Short break for a tour of the monastery.
  • After that, a hiking tour through the Gradac River gorge. The length of the trail is about 8 km, easy without significant ascent. The path leads along the Gradac River to Šareno Platno, then to the spring. Those who don't want to hike to the spring can spend time in the beautiful location and the meadow of Šareno Platno, along the river bank. The return is the same way back.
