Mount Papuk is the most beautiful mountain in Slavonia with its ridges, bays, lush vegetation, and abundant spring water. It used to be an island in the Pannonian Sea, and today its largest part is the Papuk Nature Park, which, due to its valuable heritage, has become part of the European and world network of geo-parks under UNESCO protection.
The peaks of Papuk reach almost a thousand meters above sea level. Papuk Nature Park covers an area of 343 km² and partly includes the Krndija mountain. Many call Papuk the Golden Papuk or the protector of the golden Slavonian plain. It surrounds the fertile Požega Valley, which is also called the Golden Valley because of the numerous vineyards that produce top-quality Slavonian wines.
Papuk is characterized by a large forest wealth, in which beech and oak predominate, in addition to maple, maple, and ash. The diverse and dense forests of Papuk are the habitat and refuge of deer, roe deer, wild boars, foxes, and martens. The highest peak of Papuk is the peak of the same name at 953 m.
Inside the Nature Park there is a protected nature reserve, Jankovac Forest Park, where there is a 35 m high Skakavac waterfall, unique in its beauty. In the small area of this reserve, there are also two lakes, interesting caves, a spring, and green meadows.
Numerous hiking and biking trails allow visitors to walk and drive through picturesque landscapes that are attractive in every season.
On this weekend tour, we will visit the most beautiful part of the Papuk Nature Park. On the first day, we will go along the attractive Grof's path through the park forest of Jankovac, then to the top of Ivačka glava. The stone peak is considered to be the most beautiful in Papuk and the entire Slavonian highlands. On the second day, we will go to another part of the mountain and follow a somewhat more demanding hiking trail to the peaks of Lapjak and Nevoljaš.
In early spring, Papuk is known for the flowers of jagorčevina (primula veris) that cover the forest floor and indicate the awakening of nature. This plant symbolizes the beginning of spring, and its flowers create a colorful and fragrant carpet that will enchant you with its beauty.
Regardless of whether you are an experienced mountaineer or a beginner, Papuk will provide you with unforgettable moments and wonderful memories.

First day (Saturday): Belgrade - Papuk Nature Park
- Departure from Belgrade from the parking lot of the municipality of Novi Beograd at 6:00 a.m. Driving on the highway towards Croatia, towards Slavonia, via Batrovac and Slavonski Brod. With a break on the way for coffee and breakfast, crossing the border, we arrive at the Papuk Nature Park around 11 a.m.
- A hiking trail called the Count's Path starts from Jankovac and leads through the beautiful park-forest Jankovac. A valley where there are natural beauties in a small area: the 30 m high Skakavac waterfall, two lakes, interesting caves, and green meadows. This part of Papuk was named after the landowner Josip Janković from the 19th century, who lived in this very place after Vienna and which he arranged. On this trail, we will get to know the natural beauty and have time to take photos. After that, there is a climb to the top of Ivačka glava at 913 m. The rocky peak is located on the main ridge of Papuk, due to its picturesqueness and the view from it, it is considered to be the most beautiful peak on Papuk and one of the most beautiful in the Slavonian mountains. It will take us about 2 hours to walk to the top. After a break, there is a descent to the mountain lodge Jankovac.
- Transfer to the place Velika, which is located on the southern slopes of Papuk. Velika is known for preserving old folklore customs and is the main starting point for mountain hikers towards Mount Papuk.
- Accommodation in private villas. All rooms have their bathrooms, TVs, air conditioners, and anti-allergic bedding.
- Free time and socializing. Possibility of going to the center of the village. Overnight stay.

This hiking trail is one of the most interesting in central Papuk. It has also been arranged as an educational trail by the Papuk Nature Park, as numerous educational boards talk about the hydrological, geological, and floristic values, as well as the historical side of this area. Solid fitness is required because the trail alternates between ascent and descent.
- We will take breaks for rest and photography at viewpoints and peaks.
- The descent follows a circular path back to Velika. Lunch in one of the local restaurants.
- In the afternoon, departure for Belgrade, where we arrive in the evening, around 10 p.m., with a note that the exact time of return depends on the road conditions and breaks along the way.
