Old Mountain (Stara Planina) - belongs to the group of mountain ranges, and its main range extends approximately from Zaječar to the Black Sea at a length of about 550 km. Another name for Stara Planina is Balkan, which is how the entire Balkan Peninsula got its name. The total area of the Stara Planina massif, which encompasses Serbia, is 1,802 km² and is a protected natural monument with numerous reserves, waterfalls, and relic plant and animal species.

Additional notes:

Equipment for the tour ascent to Midžor: Deep hiking shoes with Vibram soles or sports shoes with stronger soles, adequate clothing according to the weather conditions. A backpack with the necessary mountaineering equipment for a one-day action. We also recommend hiking poles. Be sure to bring enough water (1.5 l) and some food (one meal-sandwich, snacks, energy bars, fruit), a spare t-shirt, long pants or tracksuit, raincoat, sunscreen, cap, ID card and health card.

Own transportation: in case you come with your own transport, the price of the tour is 2,700 dinars (with Explore Serbia membership cards) or 3,300 dinars (for those who do not have a membership card).
The tour is organized for at least 30 registered passengers.
In case of unfavorable weather conditions or an insufficient number of registered passengers, the deadline for notification of postponement or cancellation of the tour is 2 days before departure.

Departure from Belgrade at 5 am from the parking lot at the municipality New Belgrade
Traveling by highway to Niš, Svrljig and Kalna. Coffee/breakfast break on the way lasting 30 minutes.
Arrival at the Babin zub mountain lodge on Stara planina around 10:00 a.m.

Short preparation for the hiking tour.
The hike starts from the hiking lodge "Babin zub". The path to the top is about 8 km long. The hiking trail is well-trodden, it goes first over the ski trail, then to the top of Žarkova čuka at 1850 m. The ascent to the top is constant, there are no technically demanding sections and it takes about 3 to 4 hours.
We will take a break at the top, where we will enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. If the visibility is good, we will be rewarded with views as far as the Carpathians in Romania.
After the break, there is a return, partly along the ridge, then mostly along the same path to the mountain lodge.
We will take a break in the home for a late lunch and refreshments.
Information about a hiking trail: medium, length 16 km, time about 6 to 7 hours with breaks, total ascent/descent 750 m.
The planned departure for Belgrade is at 19:00, and the return is around 23:00.
